Frequently Asked Questions
What does "scope" mean?
Your plan scope determines which stations you get full data access for (downloads, alerts, API). The Free plan lets you browse and view everything on the map, but downloads and alerts are limited. Paid plans let you select specific sites, or an entire watershed (HUC8), county, state, province, region, or country for full access.
Can I change my selected sites or area later?
Yes. You can change your scope selection anytime from your account settings — swap individual stations on the Site plans, or change your watershed, county, state, province, region, or country on the area plans.
What areas are covered?
All 50 U.S. states (plus DC and Puerto Rico) and all 10 Canadian provinces and 3 territories. The "Region" tier groups states/provinces into multi-state areas (e.g. Pacific Northwest), and the country tiers cover every station in the U.S. or Canada. The "Everything" plan spans both countries.
Which plans include API access?
The REST API and API keys are available on the Region tier and above (Region, All U.S., All Canada, and Everything). Each of those tiers carries an hourly request quota that scales with the plan.
How are forecasts generated?
Each station has a Ridge regression model trained on observed water temperature, air temperature, dewpoint, humidity, discharge, and seasonal patterns. Models are retrained monthly with accumulating data.
Can I try before I buy?
The Free Explorer plan gives you full access to the interactive map, real-time readings, and forecasts for every station. You can see exactly what data is available before subscribing.
